The world-famous vehicle manufacturer Opel has chosen content from Marco Polo, Europe’s most successful range of travel guides, for its new generation of navigation systems. The digital travel guide is available for the DVD screen navigation system on the Astra, Zafira, Vectra, Signum and Meriva models. The content comes from Falk Marco Polo Interactive GmbH (FM-I). The company distributes content from Falk, Marco Polo, Baedeker, Varta Führer and DuMont from the MairDumont portfolio.

Whereas the producers and operators of navigation and location-based services have previously always themselves had to integrate POI data in your services, in future Falk Marco Polo Interactive (FMI) will make this task considerably more straightforward for you by providing the Falk eContent service. Regardless of which basic data the service provider uses in his mobile services, it is easy to retrieve the POI information relating to the current location in 21 Western European and Northern European countries and in five languages by XML.

The market for navigation-system contents has taken off. Whereas in recent years the digitisation of the roads in Germany was the primary concern for manufacturers of cars and navigation systems, more exacting demands are now being placed on the next generation of navigation systems. These include the sophisticated response to questions such as "Where at my destination can I enjoy a good medium-priced Italian meal?" or "Which bar is still open right now, which club is worth visiting?", which signifies that navigation systems are advancing to become, among other things, a source of advice when it comes to nightlife.
