Exploring Europe's most fashionable cities with the Falk Guides and the iPhone or iPod touch
At this year's International Consumer Electronics Fair (IFA) in Berlin, Falk will be unveiling an offline Travel Guide application for the iPhone and the iPod touch for the very first time. Shortly after the conclusion of the IFA, a total of 28 Falk Guides for Europe's most fashionable cities will be available to download from the App Store under the "Travel" section at a price of 3.99 euros per city. The technical development of the Falk Guides was implemented in collaboration with the Berlin-based software company iheads. In addition to the Travel Guide appli-cation, from the end of the year Falk will also be offering navigation for the iPhone.
The Falk Guides for the iPhone and iPod touch make the ideal personal travel companions when you are visiting a city. With almost 44,000 POIs (Points of Interest), you can choose from a carefully researched and extensive selection of travel destinations presented in a compact and multimedia format featuring informative descriptions, detailed information and high-quality images. The application also highlights trends for the categories Places of Interest, Food & Drink, Shopping, In the Evening and Hotels. To start you off, interesting highlights for the city you are visiting are shown as soon as you launch the application.
A better way to arrive: With offline maps and transport network maps
Another plus point about the Falk Guides is the integrated offline map which guarantees perfect orientation at any time. Users have the option to download predefined map extracts for their city online and then to use them offline. The map extracts themselves can also be selected with future updates. This makes it possible to avoid expensive roaming charges when abroad, and users always have a digital map available for their city trip. From the iPhone 3G and above, you can display your own location and individual POIs with ease using the offline map. A radius search around a POI (in future also around an address) can also be carried out. The route to a destination is available by means of an online connection.
Another feature of the Falk Guides is the transport network maps for the Metro, underground and suburban railways. The maps are currently available for 12 major European cities: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Hamburg, London, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna and Zurich.
Experience more: With Community and audio
Further highlights of the Falk Guides are the integrated RSS Feed and the audio content which is available to purchase as an added extra. The RSS Feed allows (with the German language setting) new favourites to be transferred every hour from the Falk Community directly to the application. For the cities of Berlin, Hamburg, London, Munich, Paris and Vienna, you can also purchase audio content from the relevant Falk Guide in the form of individual themed reportages as well as all of the audio information for a particular city.
With the new Falk Guides in the App Store, Falk is now the only brand in the navigation sector which covers all aspects of mobility. In addition to the mobile Falk navigation systems, the internet portal falk.de, the patented Falk city maps and atlases as well as navigation and the Travel Guide for mobile phones, this now also includes the applications for the Apple devices.
